Spreading The Love- Author Brooke Lee

I started a new feature in my Newsletters. It’s called Spreading the Love. Every month I will feature an author and a blog. I hope you will take the time and check both of them out.

My first featured author is Brooke Lee.

Brooke’s Bio:

Growing up, Brooke’s mother instilled a deep respect for the English language and a love of words. She taught Brooke to read and write and shared her appreciation for poetry. As a teen, poetry became an outlet for Brooke’s innermost thoughts and deepest, often times darkest feelings.

In school, teachers always told her “write what you know”, so that is what she did. At the not so tender age of forty-three, she started to write her first novel, I Am ShelbyJames (Beauty in the Darkness) and it is what she knows—emotions.

In her spare time—when she’s not writing—you can find Brooke cuddled on the couch with her husband of 20+ years, their fur babies, and a good (often naughty) eBook—unless of course, she’s having cocktails with her Bestie at one of their favorite haunts.

Brooke’s Q&A-

What do you love about writing?
I mainly enjoy words and how they work together. Writing a poem or story is painting a picture with words. The right combination can elicit a multitude of emotions and inspire the reader to become a part of the story.

What are your goal(s) when it comes to writing?
First, I hope to convey my message or story in a way that captures the attention or imagination of the reader. Second, I hope that my words make the reader feel.

Is there anything you won’t write about?
When I first read this question, I thought it was easy to answer. Of course, there are topics I won’t want to write about.  But now, I have to say no. I think that given the proper context and story line anything is fair game. Even if I find something personally distasteful,  the story may be worth telling.

Are sex scenes difficult to write?
Not really. What’s hard is making each one a bit different from the last or from others I’ve read. Nobody wants to read the same thing over and over again. I seem to enjoy writing “almost sex” scenes the most. You know the ones where they are hot and bothered and teasing, but never quite make it to actually having sex.

Who is your idol in the book world?
In the world of poetry, it’s songwriters like Stevie Nicks and Jim Morrison.  They tell amazing stories in only a few minutes.    As for novelists, I can’t really answer that. There are so many I admire and enjoy.  But, if you are making me pick…hmmmm… Faith Gibson and Lainie Suzanne would be the top females. Their stories are fun, sexy and very well written. Miles Hightower would be my top male author. He tells wonderfully detailed and erotic stories that have made me fall in love with his characters.
All three are self-published and do it all on their own, not for fame and fortune,  but for the love of writing and storytelling.

If you could co-write with one author, who would it be?
I have written a few poems with others and truly enjoy it. When you write with someone you feed off of their words and build the story together. I’d be open to write with anyone, assuming our writing styles gelled. But I think writing an erotic story with a man would be fun. You’d get both sides coming from real perspectives.
